Fifth Grade - Hybrid
Fifth grade is the capstone of lower school. This year is a time to complete the foundational love of learning through a hand on approach to all subjects. Rich fiction and non fiction texts are used to bring context and story to the history and science curriculum.
BIBLE & HISTORY
Rome, the life of Jesus, early church history, Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Reformation are studied from an in-depth Christian perspective using the various curriculum resources. Students complete a timeline and create a history notebook with a page for each major event or person, map work, and illustrated pages to color. Learning is reinforced through hands-on projects such as creating a Saudi Arabia sand map, performing a mock trail, and designing a 3D castle and more.
LANGUAGE ARTS
Grade appropriate spelling, handwriting, creative writing, and grammar are taught using a variety of materials. Students will enjoy reading novels throughout the year.
MATH
Valor Christian Academy uses Sadlier for our math curriculum. Sadlier provides:
- Extensive opportunities for practice of concepts and fact memorization
- A focus on conceptual development of numeracy
- Multiple ways to develops math fluency and conceptual understanding
- Support for deepening the vocabulary of numeracy and cognitive rigor
- Digital tools for families on their at-home days
SCIENCE
The core of this science curriculum uses Foss Science curriculum. This science program focuses on God’s amazing world and is supplemented with many hands-on lab experiments.
ART & MUSIC
VCA encourages students to enjoy exploring the world of art through the use of their creativity and critical thinking. The study of arts and crafts is based on this period of history. Students explore different artists, styles, and creative thinking that correlate with the humanities that they are studying!
